On 22 May 2011 a cluster of EF5 tornados destroyed a major portion of the town of Joplin, MO, killing 160 and injuring nearly 1,000 and making it one of the deadliest and costliest in U. S. history.
In October 2011 the show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition filmed its last episode in Joplin while building seven homes in seven days. With the enormity of the rebuild the show decided that it must run its operations from a command post where host Ty Pennington and his crew would direct the massive effort. SOI was proud to donate a complete Command and Control Operations Center that included a shelter, our three-projector Megawall display system, a flat panel Auto Lift display, Tactical Tables and miscellaneous supporting equipment.
Bob Corey, VP of Operations at SOI notes “The Extreme Makeover: Home Edition effort was one of our highlight projects for 2011. It not only allowed us to join in and support a significant community outreach event going on in Joplin, MO, but allowed SOI to showcase the versatility of our Command and Control systems to end users other than military and first responders. We enjoyed working alongside the exceptional crew and on-site professionals. It was a great experience for us.”
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Joplin, MO will air on ABC this Friday, 13 January 2012 at 8PM EST.
